(VVNEWS.com)- Just because the summer movie season is over, it doesn’t mean that you have to stay home and chill with the Netflix (is that how the youngsters say it?). No, you need to go watch this awesome western that is entertaining and action packed. Far from being a comedy, I was surprised at how much I was laughing throughout the entire flick, I was expecting it to be more serious but it’s funny without it being silly. Yes, it is a bit slow in some parts and it has its flaws, but it is definitely worth checking out in theaters, especially if you like action, drama, humor or just a good ol’ western revenge story.
You know how Denzel Washington is always a badass in his movies and, probably, in real life as well? Well, he’s a badass in this flick too, and he rides a badass horse and shoots at the bad guys with badass style alongside a group of cowboys, an Indian and a Mexican who all probably took an extensive course in badassery. Denzel and six other talented gunslingers (hence the title) take on an evil (and sometimes cartoonish) bastard who has an army and violently overtakes a town of peaceful farmers by murdering anyone who gets in the way of him and the town’s gold mines.
Like I said, the pace is a tad bit slow in some parts but I was never bored thanks to the smart script that kept the dialogue interesting and witty. Some of the flaws in the flick are unfortunate but can be overlooked (they are spoilery so I won’t mention them). I’d say about 60% of the movie involves the Seven preparing for the final battle and by the time the guns start poppin, I was already super engaged and really enjoyed how cool the actions scenes were and how great it was to see each of the Seven strike down the bad guys with their own unique style.
I give this the “Checky™ Seal of Approval!” Kudos to the director (Antoine Fuqua) who does a great job of hooking you from the start and making you care for the characters who deserve justice as well as the ones who are tasked with delivering it. The music is great, the choreography is superb, the tension in some of the standoffs is palpable and the entire cast is … umm, what’s the word I’m looking for? Oh yeah, MAGNIFICENT (sorry but no way was I NOT going to do that). So giddy on up to your local cinema and go check out this explosively fun western that will have you demanding that righteousness be served.
