MOVIE REVIEW: Don’t Breathe Took My Breath Away

( This movie is so suspenseful that it’s NOT going to have you on the edge of your seat, nope, it’s gonna have you straight up squatting over it! You’re sure to have fun during this well acted, well directed, intense thriller. It has everything you would want in a movie like this, jump scares, characters you care about, a smart script, and a baddie who you feel conflicted about actually hating. I was uncomfortably tense and having a great time throughout the entire flick. There were times where I would honestly have to remind myself to breathe. This is most definitely not for sensitive folk and there is this one scene, that is shocking and disturbing and will make you change the way you see thanksgiving, forever.

The premise for this flick seems simple enough, but things get real complicated real quick when 2 guys and a gal break into a blind man’s house and try to steal from him. Once they discover that the blind man is a major threat (imagine if Jason Vorhees, Michael Myers or that one Butcher from Texas got old), they have the time of their lives (in the worst way possible) trying to get the fudge out of there. I kept snapping back to reality and being relieved that I wasn’t actually IN the house with the characters. Even though the director (Fede Alvarez) does a marvelous job in making you feel like you are the one being chased around by the badass blind man.

I definitely give this the “Checky™ Seal of Approval!”, I don’t remember the last time I had so much fun watching a, I guess you can call it horror but I say it’s more of a suspense/thriller. There are some MINOR imperfections and clichés sprinkled in between the bountiful thrills, surprises, and shocks that make this movie well worth going to the movies to watch. The hardcore horror fans that are used to stronger scares from dolls, nuns or spirits that come out when you flip the light switch, might not be as scared as I was. I don’t like (more like I’m too scared to watch) scary movies that much but, like I said, this is more of an intense and suspenseful thriller that is sure to entertain you, make you jump and have you reaching for your inhaler.

So, what did you think of Don’t Breathe? Do you agree or disagree with me? Which flick are you checking out this week? What is your horror/thriller/suspense movie of all time? Let me know in the comments below. Have a great day at the movies and don’t forget to save me some popcorn.
