(VVNEWS.com)- Throughout the flick, I got plenty of goosebumps. I felt my body shake with the powerfully awesome music, I was amazed at how incredible Batman fought, I smiled like a dork everytime something visually exciting would happen… And I also felt conflicted about whether I should love this movie or just like it and the truth is, I liked it, I loved it, AND I hated it. Now before you go all nerd on me and tell me that it was great and I’m crazy, let me tell you that I am a huge supporter of all things “geek.” Anyone that knows me, knows that Superman is my favorite person besides my wife, and Batman has always been someone I wish would exist in real life. And I’m not saying this is a waste of time or you shouldn’t go watch it, all I’m saying is that with the amount of epic badassery it packs in more than a few scenes, it’s sad that, honestly, if it wasn’t for the action, this would be a really badly made movie.
It seems that the writers and directors had a whole bunch of things they wanted to put in the movie and they did it in a very inorganic way. The editing was real bad as far as putting all the scenes together; it jumps from one thing to another and it doesn’t feel like it’s one movie, more like a series of mini episodes strung together with the lack of a good storyboard or even a decent flow map. The reason and buildup as to why Batman wants to fight Superman is perfect, but the resolution to their quarrel (not a spoiler, we all know they make up in the end) is incredibly stupid that makes the fight seem unbelievable unnecessary. The way Batman is able to go toe to toe with Superman is unoriginal and it’s annoying that it’s the same reason they ALWAYS use in everything before this.
Now I know I sound like I hated it. I warned you I did but I also loved it because besides all the negatives I just pointed out, this is a great blockbuster movie that you will enjoy if you go in and shut your cellphone AND part of your brain off. Watching these superheroes on screen together made me forget all the bad stuff as soon as they appeared. Henry Cavill is always great as Superman. Ben Affleck is perfect as Batman, and has the best fight scenes and look than in any other Batman movie to date. He is not a very nice Batman though; this interpretation makes him seem very violent and brutal, almost evil. Gal Gadot outshines both these guys as Wonder Woman, she is as fierce and powerful as she is beautiful. And Jesse Eisenberg is really good as Lex Luthor, even though he is a bit annoying, he is a mastermind and an evil genius. I am going to do what I’ve never done before and give this flick the “Checky™ Stamp of Disappointment!” AND the “Checky™ Seal of Approval!”. All in all, very dark movie that is mostly great, but fails miserably to live up to it’s full potential. Kinda like going to a party where they have a beautifully decorated multi-layered cake made out of chocolate, vanilla and asparagus.
So, what did you think of Batman V Superman? Do you agree or disagree with me? Which flick are you checking out this week? Who is your favorite superhero ? Let me know in the comments below. Have a great day at the movies and don’t forget to save me some popcorn!
